Sacred Bowls Progress

I have had a busy couple of weeks and it has been very difficult to find the time and energy to work on my bowls. But here they are getting nearer to completion. I think one or two sessions, just might do it. The edges of the bowl with the eggs needs to be tidied up and some of the shadows need working on. I then need to put in those highlights that usually provide the final zing!

While I have always rather liked the whole Zetti thing, I must say I have found it very difficult to work in someone else's style.

I used a page I did in an AB as a starting off point and took it from there.

It is for a chunky book swap and is made with just paint and collage on card.

On the Easel

I cannot believe how long it is since I last posted. I have been doing things, just not much to show lately.




I have some oil paintings on the easel, being worked at bit by bit. This first one is 14" x 14" and is the one that is furthest along. I still have lots more to do, I want to bring one egg out more than the others, maybe one of the ones in the bowl. The shadows need to be darkened a fair bit too.



The second one (12 x 12) is merely blocked in. The whole thing needs to be worked on all over, the cherries certainly don't look much like cherries at the moment!

The subjects, bowls, are because I have been reading a book, called "Everyday Sacred" which talks a lot about the symbolic nature of bowls. I am particularly inspired by the reference to the universe as a bowl.

Simple Kumihimo Braiding

Well, the summer holidays are fast approaching and I thought some children (and us older children!) might like to have a go at this fun textile technique.

I have just uploaded a series of images and instructions to my picturetrail on how to make braids using the Japanese method of Kumihimo. Instead of using the traditional tool called a Marudai, here you can see how to use a circular disc made cheaply and simply out of card.

These braids have many uses, the example I use in my lesson, is a friendship bracelet, but I use the braids in altered books, ATCs and decos, too.
